About West Virginia Court Docket

West Virginia court dockets are available through several distinct channels. The Judiciary’s WVPASS public search covers Circuit Court records, while the Magistrate Case Record Search provides a separate case index for Magistrate Court matters. Neither replaces the court clerk who holds the official record, and neither includes every kind of court file. West Virginia Court Docket is privately operated and is not part of the Judiciary or a county office. Its purpose is to explain these differences and point readers toward statewide tools, court information, and local court resources.

Why We Built This Site

West Virginia uses separate search systems for different court levels. WVPASS provides public access to Circuit Court records across all 55 counties, with records dating back to 1999; sealed and juvenile matters are excluded. Searching and registration are free, while public document downloads cost $0.25 per page plus a nominal card fee. The Magistrate Case Record Search is a different service. It searches Magistrate Court case information by name or case number, shows at most 30 results, and does not provide online documents. The full record remains with the court clerk in the county where the matter was filed. A statewide result can help locate a case, but a clerk or court must answer questions about an official docket, filing, order, or copy.

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately run reference site. It is not affiliated with a West Virginia court, clerk, or state agency. There are clear limits to what it can provide:

  • It cannot retrieve an official docket sheet or case file
  • It cannot change, reschedule, or reset a court date or hearing setting
  • It cannot remove, seal, or amend a case on a court docket
  • It cannot issue a certified copy of a docket, order, or court document
  • It cannot give legal advice about a specific case
  • It cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or procedure remains current

Only the court or the clerk responsible for the case can issue an official or certified copy. The Circuit Clerk or Magistrate Court Clerk in the filing county can direct a record request to the right office.

Search Partners

Some pages include search boxes provided by third-party companies. Those providers set their own prices and operate their own services. If a visitor follows a partner link and signs up for a paid service, the site may receive a referral fee. The site does not control partner charges, search methods, or results. Official Judiciary searches such as WVPASS and the Magistrate Case Record Search are separate from those sponsored tools.
