Official West Virginia case records, hearing dates, and certified copies come from the court or clerk responsible for the case. West Virginia Court Docket is privately operated and has no access to court filing systems, so it cannot retrieve a docket, change a hearing date, or issue a record. Use the statewide search tools for the types of cases they cover, then contact the Circuit Clerk or Magistrate Court Clerk in the filing county when a complete file or confirmation is needed. City ordinance tickets may require contacting the issuing municipality.

This Is Not a Court or Government Office. West Virginia Court Docket is a private reference site. It cannot access court systems, change court dates, remove or seal cases, issue certified copies, or give legal advice. Contact the court or clerk that holds the case for official action.

Need an Official Docket or Record?

Use the court and record type on the citation, case number, or court notice to choose the right office:

  • A full docket sheet: ask the Circuit Clerk or Magistrate Court Clerk in the county where the case was filed. The Judiciary’s courts-by-county directory lists official court contacts; the county directory routes to local court resources.
  • A court date or setting: the court calendar information explains which statewide calendars are available; confirm a trial-level date with the clerk or court holding the case.
  • Certified copies: request an official copy from the court or clerk that holds the record. Use the county directory to locate the filing county’s court resources.
  • A statewide case lookup: use the case search guide to choose between WVPASS for public Circuit records and the Magistrate Case Record Search for Magistrate case information. They cover different court levels.
  • How the courts are organized: see which court handles each kind of matter on the West Virginia court system page.

WVPASS searches public Circuit Court records statewide, while MCR returns Magistrate case metadata and does not provide online documents. Search results may be incomplete for a particular question. The filing court’s clerk can confirm the docket and advise how to inspect or obtain a copy.
